Java Developer

Would you like to contribute to our joint mission: a better world.  As a Java developer this is possible by developing and improving applications for the lotteries.

Gerben Schepers, Java Developer at the Lottery since January: “In the past nine months I have already had the opportunity to work with multiple teams, including an international team with multiple disciplines. Together we work on reusable elements, such as a design system and various services for all our Lotteries at home and abroad. We run everything serverless via AWS and can therefore fully focus on the business logic instead of management. Because of all the opportunities to learn and the good atmosphere, I feel completely at home here.”

This is what you will do:

  • As a member of the scrum team, you are involved in the ongoing development of our lottery systems on a daily basis.
  • You will work in one of the backend scrum teams, which works closely with the other scrum teams and the other departments of the lottery.
  • You consult with the Solution architect(s) about the technical and operational aspects.

Your qualities:

You are innovative, and have very good communication skills. In addition, you have:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a Java Developer with the latest LTS releases (SE11, and soon we will switch to 17), certification is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of solutions such as Spring, Maven, Jenkins and postgres / AWS RDS.
  • Technical knowledge of Linux, JMS about Message brokers (ActiveMQ, AWS SQS), REST, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with Cadence / Activiti / Flowable, or similar solutions for orchestration of processes is an advantage.
  • Good knowledge of the English language.

This makes you happy:

  • We offer each and every colleague a solid basis. You receive a good salary, join an excellent pension scheme and benefit from outstanding agreements with healthcare insurers.
  • It’s important for us for everyone to continue developing. Our Lottery Academy offers an extensive range of training programmes and courses. The career opportunities at home and abroad are practically endless.
  • We enjoy working with one another. We regularly arrange social activities – take the monthly gathering for drinks and snacks – and organise our Christmas breakfast at the end of the year that everyone looks forward to and when we look back proudly at what we’ve achieved together.
  • Staying active keeps you fit and relaxation is good for you. That’s why we offer loads of options in the field of sport and wellness. Take the weekly fitness boot camp and the kick boxing and yoga classes you can join for free. Or take time out to unwind on the massage chair.
  • You’re regularly involved in the work carried out by the charities thanks to the funds we raise for them. This includes project visits, presentations in our auditorium and our Christmas breakfast and annual “Goed Geld Gala” event attended by the organisations we support.
  • We work in one of the most innovative and sustainable buildings in the Netherlands, located within walking distance of the “Amsterdam Zuid” train station. During its development, more than 100 colleagues contributed ideas to the building’s design and sustainable solutions. This makes it a place for all of us. Our home base. We encourage everyone to travel by public transport. For this reason, you’ll receive an NS Business Card which you can use to travel for free throughout the Netherlands – even during your free time.

Your future department:

The Dataservice department is the backbone of the organization. We develop and manage the Lottery applications and the entire IT infrastructure. We ensure that all IT works. We work together in multidisciplinary teams to continuously improve our IT landscape. We are always looking for innovative possibilities and new techniques to make our IT better, faster and more efficient. Continuity, reliability and safety are paramount in everything we do: we maintain a margin of error of 0 in processes for the sale of lots, collections, draws and payment of prizes.

Your future employer:

The Postcode Lottery Group is an international organisation with a social purpose. We set up and run lotteries to raise funds for a fairer, greener, healthier world.
Our players win prizes together with their neighbors and raise money for charity together – it’s a win-win!
Postcode Lottery players have now raised over €12 billion for hundreds of charities since 1989. We’re the 3rd largest private charity donor in the world.
Every day, more than 1,500 team members in the Netherlands, Sweden, Great Britain, Germany and Norway are helping to raise 2.3 million for charity partners
